Your Personal Web site

The College of Humanities has provided all Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students, within the college, with their own personal Web space. These Web presences were created and organized for the following reasons. The personal Web spaces are organized in a manner to make your life easier: If your professional activities, research projects, etc. require you to maintain Web sites that would be better served by a non-personal Web address, it may be possible to move them to their own name.osu.edu address. Please contact Web Services for more information.

Additional Personal Web site FAQs

  1. What is (or will be) my new Web address?
    Your new address is http://people.cohums.ohio-state.edu/lastname#/
Your lastname# is the name you use for your OSU email address. Typically it consists of your lastname, a dot (period ".") and a number. Your new Web address will be the same as your email, except that the dot (period) is removed. For example Johnny Jones ID is "jones.5341" so his personal Web address will be http://people.cohums.ohio-state.edu/jones5341
  2. When is my new Web address activated?
Your new Web spaces on both the Staging and Production servers were created and your Web address activated simultaneously with the creation of your Humanities Account. If you do not have an account, request one with the form at: https://humanities.osu.edu/osuauth/coh/people/addb/admin/forms/acctrequestform.cfm.
  3. Where do I work on my Web files?
Once you have a Humanities Account, you will work on your Web files on the Staging Server, an area where you develop your ideas, create and test your files. Your Staging Server is located, on a PC at: P:\lastname#\. On a MAC you will find it as the volume -->> HUMDATA:Web-UserStaging:lastname#. Be sure to read more information about the Staging Server.
  4. How do I get my files to the Internet.
Once you have your pages all created looking like you want with images proper loading, containing all necessary information and all links working, then it is time to FTP them to the Production Server. There are a variey of ways to use FTP, as is given on our page about the Production Server.
  5. Where do I go for help?
