Examples of Recent Sensitive Data Exposures:

Ohio University (2005, 2006)
Multiple data exposures resulted in medical records, alumni, and student personal data, intellectual property, email, and Social Security numbers being exposed to criminal elements.

Georgetown University (March 2006)
Hackers stole 41,000 records of Georgetown local community members and obtained names, Social Security numbers, places of birth, and birth dates.

Vermont State College (2006)
Data on 20,000 students, employees, and retirees was stolen when an employee’s laptop was stolen while on vacation in Montreal. The data was unencrypted and unprotected resulting in notification.

Notre Dame Donors Data Breach (January 2006)
Personal information for friends and alumni of Notre Dame University who donated money to fundraisers was compromised.

University of Texas (April 2006)
A computer at the McCombs School of Business was compromised, and the perpetrator gained access to a database containing confidential information for 197,000 people.
